Luanda - The Pérola do Kikuxi farm, located in the municipality of Viana, in Luanda, expects to recover next January its production capacity of one million eggs/day, interrupted in March this year, due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

According to the company's main manager, Elizabeth Dias dos Santos, who was speaking during a visit by the secretary of State for the Economy, Mário Caetano João, and the secretary of State for Commerce, Amadeu Leitão Nunes, Kikovo's production dropped to 600,000 eggs/day, due to the constraints imposed by Covid-19.

According to the manager, with the new investments in the portfolio, supported by the Angolan central bank, the Treasury plans to double the capacity to two million eggs / day, starting in April 2021.

To this end, the company will need to gather financial resources of around US $80 million, which will allow it to create 3,000 jobs.

The farm has a slaughterhouse with the capacity to slaughter 2,500 chickens/hour and 100 tonnes for one month. It also has a feed factory, with a processing capacity of 20 tonnes of food for birds.

During the visit, the secretary of State for the Economy, Mário Caetano João, praised the investment that is being made on the farm, having underlined that actions of this kind have the support of the Ministry.

He said that the Ministry of Economy and Planning does not provide financial support, but it has created a policy, using the banking sector, to provide all the necessary assistance to businesspersons, with the aim of encouraging national production, thereby reducing imports.

The secretary of State for Commerce, Amadeu Leitão Nunes, was impressed with the dynamics of the Pérola do Kikuxi project.

The Pérola do Kikuxi farm, created in 1997, currently has 545 employees, a number that is expected to increase next year, as a result of the announced investments.
