Chibia - At least 100 tonnes of maize seed are available for the first phase of the 2020/2021 agricultural campaign, which is being distributed to more than 200,000 families by the provincial agriculture office and non-profit organisations through the Institute for Agricultural Development (IDA).

The information was released to Angop this Wednesday, in Chibia, by the head of the IDA department in Huila, Francisco Macedo, on the sidelines of Field Day of the company Jardins da Yoba, stating that compared to the previous campaign, Huila received 465 tonnes less of the seed.

He said that they also received three tonnes of bean seed and 40 litres of pesticide for field treatment in the presence of pests.

"We also received 910 tons of fertiliser, of which 550 tons of LPK, 180 tons of urea and 180 tons of ammonium, as compared to over 1,000 in the same period last year, insufficient quantities, but we are convinced that this will change so that we can effectively support the farmers," he said.

Macedo noted that the inputs have already been distributed since the opening of the agricultural campaign, on 23 October in all municipalities, by local technicians involved in the delivery process.

He warned that the receipt of the inputs was the responsibility of the provincial governments and consequently the municipal administrations, with IDA being the institution that would monitor the process.
