Cuvango - An anti-tank landmine exploded on Thursday in Mumba locality, Cuvango municipality, southern Huila province, destroying a tractor and seriously injuring its driver.

The incident took place 356 kilometres of Huila province’s capital city, Lubango, when three tractors were working on a newly launched farming project.

The event left the local authorities worried as this is the second such a case in the region in a year’s time. The first happened in 2015 and killed two people.

The local administrator Miguel Luís has notified the concerned authorities as there are fears of the existence of a mine field south of the municipal headquarters.

Miguel Luís admitted the existence of other unexploded ordnances, as the region was the scene of major military operations during the war.

Cuvango municipality has a population of about 75,000 inhabitants.
