Quilengues - For the first time in 40 years, the 50-kilometre road section that connects the headquarters of the Municipality of Quilengues, southern Huila Province, to the village of Camulemba, in north-eastern Lunda Norte Province, began to receive last Wednesday improvement works, within the framework of Integrated Programme of Intervention in Municipalities (PIIM).

The works will provide more comfort and better circulation of people and goods, between the seat of the municipality and that which is considered one of the villages with potential in agriculture and cattle-breeding, in Quilengues.

At the site, the municipal administrator, Adriano Alberto Pedro, underlined that the works are budgeted at just over 156.2 million kwanzas (equivalent to US $262,000) and they are to be carried out in a period of four months.

The works are intended to facilitate the commercial flow between the headquarters of Quilengues and the sector of Camulemba, one of the areas with the highest agricultural production in the municipality.

He recalled that the section was impassable for over forty years and circulation was only possible with motorcycles and bicycles.

The town of Camulemba has an estimated population of 26,000. Quilengues is located 143 kilometres to the north of Lubango City, Huila’s capital.
