Covid-19: National Overview

Luanda - At least 300 Angolan citizens have been authorised to undergo a 14-day period of quarantine at home, on prevention of the risk of eventual contamination of the new coronavirus (Covid-19).

The quarantined citizens are those who arrived Wednesday from Portugal, on board the TAAG flight, Porto-Lisbon-Luanda.

They were authorised by the Inter-ministerial Commission for the Response to the Covid-19 Pandemic, due to the unrest /turmoil registered among the passengers upon arrival at Luanda's 4 de Fevereiro International Airport.

The said Commission is coordinated by the Angolan Ministry of Health.

Still in Luanda, the National Secretary of ruling party's youth wing (JMPLA), Crispiniano dos Santos, urged all young people, regardless of party affiliation, to abide by the guidelines of the official state bodies, especially the Ministry of Health, helping to disseminate credible information about the measures prevention.

At a time when the world is facing the pandemic that has already infected more than 200,000 people, of whom more than 8,200 died, the national secretary of JMPLA appeals to the population for calm and caution in their contact with national and foreign citizens from infected countries.

Lunda Norte

The government of the province of Lunda Norte created a quarantine testing center in the municipality of Chitato, for a period of 15 days.

The test covers citizens from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), from the borders of Chissanda and Tchicolondo.


The National Police hospital in Benguela, located in the municipality of Catumbela, is named by the local Multi-sector Commission to fight the new coronavirus to accommodate suspected or possibly positive cases of this pandemic.

Cuando Cubango

The churches recognised by the Angolan State, philanthropic youth associations and traditional authorities in Menongue, the capital headquarters of Cuando Cubango, were urged to intensify the awareness actions on preventive measures against Covid-19.
The appeal was made by the vice governor of that province for the political, social and economic sector, Carla Cativa.


The provincial governor of Bié, Pereira Alfredo, called on public-private institutions, churches and other social partners to step up efforts to clarify the population on transmission and prevention of the new coronavirus.


Public and private Media Houses in Huila province were trained on the coronavirus, to start disseminating the information.


For two weeks, several health sector technicians from the six municipalities making up the province of Bengo will be trained in articles on the prevention of Covid-19, aiming to improve the forms of contamination, transmission, diagnosis and prevention measures of this pandemic, said the provincial director of Health, Victória Cambuanda.


The National Plan for the Control of the new Coronavirus was presented to doctors, nursing technicians and staff of the Ministry of the Interior (Minint), by the local health authorities, with a view to preventing infection by this disease.
