Lunda Sul wants greater participation of mining companies in social actions

Saurimo - The Provincial government of the eastern Lunda Sul Wednesday, called for greater participation of the mining companies, in the multi-sectoral development of the region and the employability of young people.


 

The Catoca Mining Society, the fourth largest mine in the world, which exploits in the open pit is responsible for over 75 per cent of Angola’'s diamond output, employs over 5,000 workers, including nationals and expatriates.

The company has contributed to actions linked to tackle ravines, distribution of school meals, support for agricultural projects of peasant families and the construction of schools and fountains.

The government and the diamond firm ENDIAMA set up a technical committee to draw up a memorandum of understanding for the execution of various projects, with emphasis on the water, health, electricity, and higher education sectors.

Daniel Neto, local governor, valued the partnership with the concessionaire ENDIAMA, for being a great alternative in the quest for solution of some social problems, in a phase of scarcity of sufficient financial resources, to sustain the actions and structuring projects in the province’s portfolio.
