Luanda - The Speaker of the National Assembly, Carolina Cerqueira, on Wednesday will travel to Geneva, Switzerland, to take part in the first meeting of the Preparatory Commission for the 6th World Conference of Parliament Speakers, to be held between July and August 2025.
The preparatory meeting, which will take place between the 16th and 17th, will reflect on the current challenges of world peace, sustainable development and democracy.
The parliamentarians will also analyse the results of previous conferences, with emphasis on the evolution of interparliamentary cooperation over the years and the priority of the parliamentary agendas of the parliaments of the member countries in the face of global and regional geopolitical challenges.
The Speaker of the Angolan Parliament was elected, together with her counterparts from Côte d'Ivoire, Tanzania and Nigeria, as a member of the Preparatory Committee for the 6th World Conference of Presidents of Parliaments, representing the African group.
The decision came out of a meeting of the Executive Committee held last April in Geneva, which approved the proposals of the Inter-Parliamentary Union´s (IPU) regional groups to elect the 21 members of the Preparatory Committee for the World Conference of Parliament Speakers.
